Juke Cry Hand Clap combines performance, publication, public programs, an archival exhibition, and an online mapping site. The mapping site activates rich geographic data pertaining to historical sites of musical entrepreneurship and social dance culture across the 20th century. In particular, the online map site marks the 1970s and 1980s during which disco and house became dominant modes of social culture. The online map will be launched in conjunction with a series of public dialogues centered on documenting contemporary Americana, with house being a significant local example. Driven by community-derived content, the digital map will continue to grow as a public resource and pedagogical tool.
